A seemingly benign tweet announcing the new jersey numbers for the New England Patriots’ 2024 draft picks sparked a stir due to the inclusion of a previously unknown emblem.
The Patriots used a new circular logo with the letters ‘NE’ on it, with the ‘Pat Patriot 2.0’ emblem in the negative space between them.
Fans were outraged by this, and it rapidly became a trending topic on Twitter.
‘That new alternate logo is utter hot rubbish,’ said one enraged user. ‘And if you put that on jerseys, I will not pay anything for one.’
‘I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I’m not enjoying this new logo,’ remarked another account.
Another user said, ‘What’s that terrible logo on this layout?!?!? What are we doing, dude!! It is not [the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer].’
‘They’re really marketing their new logo. Another story speculated that he may be planning a new uniform for next season when he becomes eligible.
The outcry eventually became so severe that the Patriots’ Twitter account posted a meme informing fans that the previous emblem would not be removed.
Last season, the Patriots finished with the third-worst record in football (4-13).
