Rob Gronkowski, the legendary New England Patriots tight end, was not only one of the most significant players during the Tom Brady era, but also probably the best tight end of his generation.
He was also one of the greatest football players in NFL history, possibly the most physically dominant Patriot ever.
Gronkowski turned 35 years old on Tuesday, and the club honored one of its real heroes with a collection of his memorable post-touchdown spikes.
Gronkowski announced his retirement from football following the 2018 season, which ended in the team’s final Super Bowl of the Brady era.
Gronkowski’s final reception as a Patriot set up Super Bowl 53’s only touchdown. Despite struggling through the 2018 season with injuries and a deteriorating physique, Gronk came up big one last time, helping the team win its sixth Lombardi Trophy.
Gronkowski returned to football after a year away and came out of retirement to play with Brady in Tampa Bay, and he turned back the clock in Super Bowl 55 with two touchdowns to help Brady win his seventh ring and his fourth.
Gronkowski caught 621 catches for 9,286 yards and 92 touchdowns throughout his unquestionably Hall of Fame career.
He was named a first-team All-Pro four times, a five-time Pro Bowler, and a member of the NFL’s 2010 All-Decade team.
