Although Tyreek Hill expressed admiration for his former teammate Travis Kelce, the wide receiver for the Dolphins maintained that Kelce is not receiving the compensation he deserves in Kansas City.
Hill agrees that Kelce is one of, if not the best, in his position and has played a significant role in the Chiefs’ three titles in the last five years.
For the benefit of the team, Kelce accepted a “friendly” deal, according to Hill.
Speaking on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Hill stated, “I think Kelce like at 14, 15 [million].” There is no Travis Kelce. And nobody’s Patrick Mahomes. Those two are simply not the same.
They will receive the highest salary. However, they’ll undoubtedly accept amicable agreements because, well… [They wish to retain] the group. Following his 2016 draft selection by the Chiefs, Hill played for Kansas City until 2021. The five-time First-Team All-Pro insisted that Kelce was the best tight end he had ever played with, despite sharing the field with Kelce for the first six seasons of his NFL career.
‘At all? When asked if Kelce is the best tight end, he replied, “For sure,” then quickly withdrew his statement to say, “The greatest tight end that I played with, I will say that.”
“I want to say no more about the career of anyone else.” But based on what I’ve observed and how diligently he practices, he is unquestionably the best.
SportRac reports that Kelce’s base pay is $12 million, which puts him behind offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor and quarterback Patrick Mahomes combined.Hill previously stated that he wanted to be compensated like the NFL’s top wide receiver, even though he acknowledged he did not want to leave the Chiefs. When the Dolphins signed him to a four-year, $120 million contract in 2022, his wish came true.
Prior to highlighting Kelce’s compensation, Hill talked about the Chiefs’ reputation for paying well for experience.
“I told them that I wanted to be in Kansas City,” Hill remarked. “Man, I have no idea what it is.” It seems to me that they are trying to hold the core group of guys together.
“But I think you guys are winning all these championships and you have a really good team and owner—money’s there, bro.”
