The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will return to television this summer, following a brief absence.
The highly regarded series ‘Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team’ concluded its 16-year run on CMT in 2022. “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” marked the return of the cheerleaders to episodic television, as announced by the Dallas Cowboys and Netflix on Thursday.
Greg Whiteley, an Emmy Award-winning director, and the production team behind Cheer and Last Chance U.S. collaborate on the seven 45-minute episodes of the Netflix series, which chronicle the 2023-24 squad from beginning to end.
Whiteley stated, “To their incomparable credit, the Cowboys granted us unrestricted access and left us alone during the year we filmed the DCC.” “An authentic portrait of one of the most storied and beloved institutions in American popular culture” is the result.
The show will premiere this summer, commencing with auditions from the previous season. The date of commencement remаins unannounced.
In contrast to its CMT antecedent, the cheerleaders will be chronicled throughout training camp and the 2023-24 NFL season on the Netflix series.
“Under the direction of seasoned director Kelli Finglass, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders grant access to the public in order to document the intimate anecdotes that lie beneath the uniforms, thereby exposing the cheerleaders’ and coaches’ ambition, tenacity, and turmoil.” “Making the team is an absolute dream come true for many, but that is only the start,” the group said in a statement.
Charlotte Jones, executive vice president/chief brand officer of the Dallas Cowboys and president of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, expressed delight at the completion of the year-long production.
“Episode after episode, the narratives presented via this open access will captivate audiences, and Netflix’s international stage is the ideal venue to showcase them,” Jones said. “From the outset, we were cognizant of the fact that our fans and viewers would be delighted with the opportunity to witness the season’s journey, including the emotions, difficulties, and happiness encountered along the way.”
“It’s also part of the reason that, for decades, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have earned their place as being ‘often imitated, but never equaled’” according to Jones.
