The Cowboys have gained some depth and experience at running back, about a week before the NFL Draft.

Royce Freeman, a six-year veteran who has played for four teams, including the Rams in 2023, has signed with the Cowboys.

Freeman, a third-round selection of the Broncos in 2018, played for three seasons in Denver before making appearances with the Panthers, Texans, and Rams.

Freeman has only made nine career starts in 79 games played, spending the most of his career as a backup and reserve player.

In Los Angeles last season, Freeman ran for 319 yards, his greatest total since 2019 and third-most of his career.

With 471 rush attempts, Freeman is now by far the most seasoned back on the Cowboys. With major snaps, only Rico Dowdle (96) is a back. Hunter Luepke, Snoop Connor, Malik Davis, and Deuce Vaughn are some of the other backs on the team.

The Cowboys’ draft approach next week won’t likely be affected by this move because running back is still viewed as a key need, especially after starting player Tony Pollard was lost to Tennessee in free agency last month.
