Tom Brady talked candidly about the harsh NFL Draft process and said he broke down in tears when he realized his ambitions were gone.
As it appeared like Brady would not be making the transition from college football to the NFL that he had anticipated, he began to worry that he might have to become a “insurance salesman.”
Although Brady is arguably the best quarterback in NFL history, his wait to be called up by the New England Patriots was difficult.
He was selected with selection No. 199 in the 2000 NBA Draft. In a video posted on the NFL’s Instagram page, Brady shared his thoughts on the historic day.
Brady’s draft experience
It was difficult to remain downstairs for the fourth and fifth rounds after they had already passed and all these other guys were getting selected. He recounted, obviously impacted by the recollection and figҺting back the tears, “I remember going for walks around the block with my mom and dad.”“You know, it was a difficult day. I just remember being there with my parents, and they were really encouraging to me.””And they experience the same emotions as I do. You know, I was ecstatic when the Patriots finally phoned. I thought, ‘I don’t have to be an insurance salesperson.'”Brady’s father, Tom Brady Sr., gave a tearful recollection of the day he was selected, stating, “We were led to believe that he was going to be drafted, possibly second round, probably third round.”He told ESPN, “They kept calling quarterback names, and we kept being stunneԀ.” “We were inconsolable. It was getting worse and worse with every nаme.”
