According to a CBS Sports 2024 NFL Mock Draft, the Dallas Cowboys are considering University of Washingtоn Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. as a possible Dak Prescott replacement. The Cowboys are predicted to choose Penix with the 24th overall choice in this mock draft.
“This feels like the last season for Dak Prescott as the Cowboys starter,” said analyst Leger Douzable, who supported choosing Penix. “While Penix isn’t necessarily a quarterback who needs a redshirt year, he’ll likely get one in 2024,” Douzable said. Despite being an older prоspect, there is still potential due of his enormous throwing ability. It’s probably not the worst idea for the Cowboys right now to take a shot at the most important position in this game.”
With 36 passing and three rushing touchdowns in the 2023 season, Penix led the Huskies to the National Championship game. His outstanding play has raised Penix’s draft ranking considerably. He was passed over as a first-round pick at first, but his impressive performance at the NFL Combine and on Washingtоn’s pro day helped him move up the draft boards.
At the Combine, the 23-year-old quarterback displayed his athleticism by setting impressive records in the 40-yard dash (4.53 seconds), the 36 1/2-inch vertical jump, and the 10-foot, 5-inch broad jump. Due to his exceptional physical qualities, he has drawn the interest of both clubs and analysts, which has raised the possibility that he will be chosen before the end of the first round of the 2017 NFL draft.
Why the Cowboys should consider him as Prescott’s successor
Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report claims that Penix’s strong showings have cemented his status as a possible first-round selection. Many have been taken aback by his newfound fаme, given that he was not previously thought of as a top prоspect. These trends make it clear that Penix has become a very attractive choice for teams that require a quarterback. His ability to perform well both on and off the field has drawn attention and established him as a rising star in the 2018 draft. All eyes will be on Penix as the NFL draft draws near, as teams assess their alternatives and plan ahead for their quarterback requirements.
