The Patriots will be without their two regular quarterbacks, so rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett will start until Tom Brady is cleared to play again. Third-round selection Brissett saw his first NFL action following Jimmy Garoppolo’s injury during the second quarter of the Patriots’ victory last week.
In his six of nine pass completions during his substitute appearance, Brissett appeared collected and managed to stave off the Dolphins long enough to win. In Brissett’s first NFL game as a starter against the Texans on Thursday, the Patriots will want more than screen throws and quick passes.
What you need know about him and Sloan Young, his girlfriend, is as follows:
1. The Pair Became Friends Brissett began his undergraduate career at Florida, where he was similarly thrown into action right away, before transferring to NC State in 2013. Young is originally from North Carolina, and he would not have met her if he had stuck with Florida. Originally from Florida, Brissett transferred during his sophomore year at Florida due to a coaching change.
For Brissett, who was effective in two seasons in Raleigh, the move paid off. NFL scouts took notice of him as he concluded his Wolfpack career with over 5,000 yards and 43 touchdowns.
Young was born and reared in North Carolina, per a blog she maintained in the summer of 2015. Although she enrolled at NC State, she writes in her blog that she never felt content and was constantly looking for more in places that left her feeling empty.
When Young claims to have “got down on my knees in the middle of the night and asked Christ to enter my heart and in return I would surrender my life to him,” things took a turn for the better for her in the latter part of 2012. Young left NC State with a major in interpersonal communication after graduating two years later. Young made her lifelong commitment to urban ministry not long after graduating from college.
