Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, is a three-time Super Bowl champion, nine-time Pro Bowl selection, and All-Pro selection. Include “film producer” on that list of distinctions.
It was disclosed that Kelce would serve as an executive producer of the upcoming dark comedy drama My Dead Friend Zoe, which will also feature Gloria Reuben, Sonequa Martin-Green, Natalie Morales, Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman, and Utkarsh Ambudkar.
Kelce was not present at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, where the film debuted over the weekend.Conversely, he was observing one of his girlfriend Taylor Swift’s six Eras Tour stops in Singapore while halfway around the globe.
Travis was later observed leaving the arena with his significant other and dine at a restaurant as the concert came to a close. The footage showed Travis standing in a suit and observing her performance. The Austin film, which Kelce executive produced, is directed by Kyle Hausman-Stokes, a Bronze Star-winning military veteran.
Hausmann-Stokes remarked, “It was absolutely surreal to receive that information” regarding Kelce’s executive producing the project.
“Travis is very supportive of the military and veterans; for this reason, his team and his desk decided to move forward with this project in large part.”
“It was truly heartwarming and moving, and the additional attention and vitality he has infused into the endeavor will only assist in expanding its reach.”
“My Dead Friend Zoe” is a dark comedy drama that follows the journey of Merit, a U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran whose family is in discord due to the presence of Zoe, her deceased best friend from the Army. The film’s synopsis was provided by SXSW.
In spite of the unwavering support of her VA group counselor, her mother’s stern guidance, and the lightheartedness of an unanticipated romantic involvement, Merit and Zoe maintain a close-knit yet dysfunctional friendship that serves as a protective barrier against the outside world. That is until Merit’s estranged grandfather, who is holed up at the ancestral lake house of the family, starts to become disoriented and requires assistance, which he initially declines to provide.
“This is fundamentally about a fractured family, a complicated friendship, and the intricate ways in which we cope with loss.”
There is currently no distributor for the film, nor is a release date for a wider audience established.
