After yet another playoff defeat, Dak Prescott sprang to Mike McCarthy’s defense as speculation about the future of the Cowboys head coach and his quarterback began to circulate.
At AT&T Stadium on Sunday, Dallas was defeated 48–32, marking the Cowboys’ third loss in their last four playoff contests under McCarthy.
Because of the “high expectation” and “hope” around this club, owner Jerry Jones referred to it as “the most painful” postseason defeat of his 35-year career.
The outcome raised questions about McCarthy’s and Prescott’s futures. Following the game, the quarterback defended his head coach, accepted responsibility for Sunday’s defeat, and said that he “suckeԀ.”
“He has been outstanding.” “I understand the business, but I’m not sure how there can be questions about his status,” Prescott said.

After Jordan Love’s outstanding performance that night, Prescott offered a brutally honest evaluation of his own play.
“Tonight was terrible,” Prescott said. That was it. It took me a little while to get it rolling, but at that point, it made no difference. I struggled. I really only know how to do that.
But the goal is to prevail. It all comes down to winning the postseason and making it to the final game, when victory is certain. It’s difficult.
