The Dallas Cowboys lost their first home game in almost two whole seasons at the worst conceivable moment, and they weren’t just defeated; they were completely destroyed.
The Cowboys were thoroughly outmatched in their 48-32 playoff defeat to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, and to be honest, it’s shоcking it was ever that close. It was one of the most humiliating games in the franchise’s history.
In this game, Dallas’ defense, under the direction of well-liked coaching candidate Dan Quinn, collapsed. In what way? With the exception of one drive (before garbage time), the Packers managed to reach the end zone on average 8.7 yards per play.
Dallas’ defensive “performance” may have peaked late in the third quarter when Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love found tight end Luke Musgrave for a 38-yard touchdown with no defender in his zip code.
Without a doubt, the оffensive for the Cowboys wasn’t much better, if any. Brian Schottenheimer’s team couldn’t get going until it was way too late, as the Cowboys didn’t get on the scoreboard until they were already down 27-0. Additionally, in the first half, quarterback Dak Prescott threw two costly turnovers, one of which resulted in a score and the other in a pick six.
KaVontae Turpin returned a kickoff to only the 14-yard line, Brandon Aubrey missed an extra point, and the special teams unit faltered as well. For the Cowboys, this game was just a complete bust.
With tight end Jake Ferguson receiving all three touchdowns and 41 of 60 completions, Prescott completed the throw with two interceptions. Tony Pollard ran 15 times for 56 yards and a score, while CeeDee Lamb had nine catches for 110 yards.
But Love, in his first-ever postseason game, dominated, finishing 16 of 21 throws for 272 yards and three touchdowns. Romeo Doubs caught six catches for 151 yards and a score, while Musgrave and Dontayvion Wicks both added a touchdown of their own. In addition, Aaron Jones exploited the Cowboys defense, gaining 118 yards and three scores on only 21 attempts.
The Cowboys now have a lot more questions than answers going into a very fascinating summer after yet another disappointing playoff campaign.
