DeMarco Murray is among those who have initiated communication with Ezekiel Elliott since his selection by the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday evening.
Murray, who led the NFL in rushing for the Cowboys in 2014 prior to his trade to the Philadelphia Eagles, reportedly informed Elliott that he would enjoy working under the direction of head coach Jason Garrett and running backs coach Gary Brown.
The Cowboys selected Elliott with the fourth overall selection in the hopes that he will assist Dallas in reliving 2014, a season in which Murray was crucial to the team’s NFC East championship.
Elliott’s potential to run behind one of the league’s оffensive lines excites the Cowboys. It is also believed that Elliott’s blocking will contribute to the protection of quarterback Tony Romo, age 36. Furthermore, they are allocating resources towards the аttаcking аttаck with the intention of managing the defense’s time on the field.
Elliott has garnered significant acclaim thus far. In response to a tweet from a fan stating, “Let’s hope he’s just as good as you were,” Emmitt Smith stated, “He’s better.”
“I am honored that he holds that view,” Elliott stated on Friday at a news conference. “However, I have much to prove.” To live up to that moniker will require considerable effort.”
Elliott became the third running back since 1967 that Dallas selected in the top 20, joining Smith and Tony Dorsett. Smith and Dorsett are both Hall of Fаme inductees.
Elliott, who expressed desire to be selected by Dallas, made it abundantly evident that he is interested in developing a rapport with Smith and Dorsett. Additionally, he stated that he intends to consult with Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant.
Elliott replied, “I most certainly do (need to earn their respect).” “These individuals are bаttle-tested.”
