According to multiple news outlets, New England Patriots player Jack Jones was arrested at Boston’s Logan International Airport on Friday after attempting to bring guns on his flight to Arizona.
TSA agents discovered two loaded firearms and ammunition in Jones’ carry-on luggage as it passed through an X-ray scanner at the airport’s security checkpoint around 5:20 p.m., according to local news station WCVB-TV.
The 25-year-old New England cornerback, whose full name is Jackie K. Jones, was taken into custody at the State Police Logan Airport Barracks about 10 minutes later, according to the outlet.
Firearms must be declared and checked in as checked baggage at the airport, according to TSA regulations. The weapons, as well as any ammunition, must be stored in a hard-sided container. Loaded firearms discovered at a checkpoint may result in a fine ranging from $3,000 to $10,700 and criminal referral, according to the TSA website.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, Jones faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card.
His bail has been set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in East Boston District Court next week, according to the outlet.
The TSA and the Massachusetts State Police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
In a statement released to the media, the New England Patriots acknowledged Jones’ arrest.
“We have been notified that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport earlier today,” an ESPN spokesperson said. “We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time.”
